Affair with Clint

In March 1983, Countess Echo DiSavoy arrives in Llanview seeking revenge on newspaper editor Clint Buchanan. She schemes to get close to him, and secures a job as a photographer at The Banner. Echo seduces Clint in June 1983, and he is reminded of a woman from his past named Giselle; though he does not make the connection, Giselle was Echo's mother, and Echo blames him for her death. After telling Clint's wife Viki about the affair, Echo lures Clint into an argument on a bridge. Though she has fallen in love with him, Echo goes through with her plan and jumps into the water in an apparent suicide. Witnessing the argument, Echo's friend Dorian Lord tells the police that Clint had pushed Echo. Clint is indicted for Echo's murder while Viki and Marco Dane search for evidence to clear him. They discover that Echo is alive, and during Clint's trial she confesses the details of her plan to frame him for murder. It is revealed that Echo's father Arthur had actually murdered Giselle. Clint is freed and soon reunited with Viki, who forgives him for his affair. Echo leaves town.[4]

Return

On October 1, 2010, Echo reappears at Llanfair to visit her ex-lover Charlie Banks, who is now married to Viki. Viki is still resentful and later refuses Echo's request for a job at The Banner, soon hiring private investigator Rex Balsom to determine Echo's motives for returning. Clint confronts Echo about her return, and she shows him half of a heart necklace which she claims that he bought for her, though he denies it. Rex breaks into Echo's room and finds the necklace, realizing it is the other half of the necklace that was left with him by his birth mother when she put him up for adoption. When Rex and Viki confront Echo, she claims that she got the necklace as a gift; Echo later researches Rex on the internet, and realizes that he is the son she gave up for adoption. She reveals to Clint that Rex is his son as well, but soon realizes that Clint has known for some time and has been purposely concealing it from an inquisitive Rex. Distrusting Rex and believing him to be a "gold-digging piece of trash"  — like Echo  — Clint threatens her not to reveal Rex's true parentage to anyone. Echo is wracked by guilt over abandoning Rex, and on November 12, 2010 she publicly reveals that she is Rex's mother. She names Charlie the father to protect Rex from Clint's wrath. A DNA test is subsequently done, and Clint tampers with the results in order to ensure that Charlie is listed as Rex's father. Over time, Rex softens toward Echo, and the two bond, as do Charlie and Rex. When Echo is kicked out of the Angel Square Motel, she convinces Charlie and a reluctant Viki to let her move into Llanfair. Ever the schemer, Echo uses her penchant for drinking to get closer to Charlie, a recovering alcoholic. The two begin attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings together, and when Echo plants an emotional kiss on Charlie, Viki warns her to stay away from him. Dorian, meanwhile, sets out to prove that Rex is really Clint's son ---not Charlie's--- and that Echo has known the truth all along. Because of this, Dorian and Viki, who are usually frenemies, join forces with one another, and forge a truce against this common enemy. Echo and Charlie continue to grow closer, infuriating Viki to the point that she, with Dorian's help, throws Echo out on the street. Echo takes refuge in the only place she can afford, a cheap motel called the Minuteman Motel. When the truth about Clint's deception in regards to Rex's paternity comes out, a devastated Charlie finds comfort in Echo's arms, unaware that she knew all along that Clint was Rex's father. Though Charlie admits to Echo he has feelings for her, he tells her he loves Viki and needs to stay with his wife. Soon enough, however, Echo and Charlie are engaging in a torrid affair behind Viki's back. Viki eventually catches Charlie and Echo in bed together, just after Charlie tells a relieved Echo that he is planning on leaving his wife for her. Viki and Charlie decide to divorce, leading Echo and Charlie to go public with their relationship. Fearing that Charlie will discover that she knew all along that Rex wasn't his son, Echo convinces Clint to keep his mouth shut. Unbeknownst to her, however, Clint records their conversation and hands it over to Dorian in exchange for her aide when he collapses from a heart attack. Dorian quickly gives the tape recorder ---and Echo's confession to knowing all along that Clint is Rex's father--- to Viki, who promptly hands it over to Charlie. Devastated by the betrayal, Charlie breaks up with Echo and then, after he and Viki divorce, leaves Llanview to return to Paris, Texas, to help rebuild the Bonjour Cafe after it was leveled in a tornado. Meanwhile, a furious Echo vows to get revenge on both Viki and Dorian for destroying her relationship with Charlie. In late June 2011, Echo hires actress Ionia Masters, who co-stars with David Vickers in his biopic "Vicker Man" playing the onscreen version of his wife Dorian Lord, to seduce David away from Dorian to ruin her marriage to avenge her for ruining her affair with Viki's ex-husband Charlie. Echo also tells Viki that Dorian was the one who caused Clint's heart attack, threatening to drive a wedge between Viki and Dorian's newfound reconcilliation with each other as friends. However, Viki doesn't buy anything Echo has to say, because of what Echo had done to her, and prefers to believe Dorian, her former stepmother and frenemy, because, at least, Dorian has shown that she cares for Viki, unlike Echo, who ruined two of Viki's marriages.

On July 15, 2011, Dorian figures out by herself that Echo was the one who was sabatoging her marriage to David after she confronts Echo outside her La Boulaie estate. Echo then kidnaps Dorian after they fight each other with a couple of garden hoses! Echo later takes Dorian hostage at the Minute Man Motel, but her kidnapping scheme is ruined when Dorian's seven year old grand nephew Sam Manning later rescues Dorian from her clutches while wearing a Spider-Man mask, and spraying Echo against the wall with foam made spider webs! Police Detective John McBain later finds Echo, Dorian, and Sam at the motel. John later arrests Echo for kidnapping Dorian and books her at the police station. Rex then blackmails Dorian and tells her to drop the charges on his mother or he will turn her in for allowing Clint to hang in the balance between life and death which led to his heart attack. Dorian drops the charges and Echo is set free. Echo then moves in with Rex and Shane at the Buchanan Mansion where she discovers a greiving Rex who is claiming to see his deceased fiance Gigi Morasco! On September 16, 2011, Echo is blackmailed by Clint's ex-wife Kimberly Andrews by using Rex's missing gun that Echo got rid of with the help of Rex's adoptive mother Roxy Balsom by Roxy hiding it inside her stuffed beaver Morris at a flea market being held outside in Angel Square that was purchased by Kim's brother and former con artist Cutter Wentworth for his girlfriend and fellow former grifter Aubrey Wentworth, after Echo thought that Rex used the gun to murder Victor Lord Jr. who had been revealed not to be Todd Manning. Kim wants Echo to pay her money to help out her comatose friend Stacy Morasco's medical bills, and to hand back the Buchanan fortune over to Clint after Rex extorted the money from him in exchange for Clint to receive Rex's deceased fiance Gigi's heart. Echo later tells Rex about Kim's scam against him, but he refuses to give Clint back his fortune. Echo then forges Rex's name on the documents to overturn the Buchanan fortune back to Clint to give into Kim's demands. Shortly thereafter Echo fell off the show's canvas. In December 2011, it is revealed that Echo is in Mendorra taking pictures there.
